Abby N. Matteo, Paralegal
Born and raised in Norfolk, Nebraska, I began my journey in the field of law during my last year of high school. I worked part time as a legal office secretary at Albin Law Office. After graduating from high school in 1998, I continued working part time at Albin Law Office while attending college full time at Northeast Community College where I earned a Legal Office Technology Diploma in 1999 and an Associates of Arts Degree in Paralegal Studies in 2001. In my last year of college, I accepted a paralegal position at the law firm of Stratton, Ptak & Kube working on personal injury cases. It was at that point I knew personal injury was the area of law in which I wanted to specialize.
In 2003, I married my best friend, Mike, and moved to the Kansas City area after he accepted a job transfer. Upon arriving in Kansas City, I went to work for the law firm of Monsees, Miller, Mayer, Presley & Amick where I remained for ten years. While there, I assisted Attorney Brian J. Amick in personal injury and wrongful death cases including motor vehicle collisions, product liability cases involving presses, injection molding machines, elevators, bulldozers, firearms and defective automobiles, as well as medical malpractice matters. I also provided support to Attorney Kirk R. Presley in filing claims with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund for individuals injured or that lost a loved one in the attacks on the World Trade Centers.
In February 2013, I embarked on a new chapter in my life after joining the legal team at Meyerkord, Russell & Hergott. Fourteen years after I first set foot in a law firm, I continue to find my paralegal career exciting, challenging and very rewarding. Offering my knowledge and skills to aid people in their time of need is very fulfilling, and I look forward to the next fourteen years!
