The 3 Most Common Types of Premises Liability Cases

We are personal injury lawyers in the Kansas City area and have been handling premises liability cases for 15 years. We’ve handled and investigated many different types of premises liability cases.

A common question we get from prospective clients is whether their case qualifies as a premises liability case. Premises liability cases stem from a property owner's duty to keep their premises safe to various degrees. Here are the most common types of premises liability cases.

1. Slip or trip and falls.

These cases stem from danger on the property owner’s floor. If the property owner knew or should have known about the danger, they must do something about it. If they don’t, and as a result, you slip or trip and fall in danger, then the property owner may be liable to pay you monetary compensation for your injuries.

2. Falling merchandise.

Another common type of premises liability case stems from dangers above our heads. If a property owner knows or should know that something has a chance of falling on a customer and hurting them, then they must do something to prevent it or warn customers about it.

3. Crime victim cases.

These are cases in which the property owner knows or should know that it has a crime problem. If they do, and they fail to do something to prevent crime on their property, and as a result, you get injured during a crime, the property owner may be liable.

These are the most common types of premises liability cases. If you have questions about these types of cases, please contact our firm. We have the experience and knowledge to answer your questions.
