Economic damages are those that have an identifiable value; they have documentation to show how much they are. They include things like property damage, medical charges and wage loss. There are repair estimates to show property damage, hospital bills for medical charges and pay stubs for wage loss.
Non-economic damages do not have documents to show their value. They include damages like pain and suffering, scarring, and emotional suffering. Although they are difficult to value, they are, for the most part, relative to your economic damages. The higher your economic damages, the higher your non-economic damages. They are also usually more substantial because they are what you remember most from an accident.
