Kansas City Dump Truck Crashes on the Rise

There have been several news articles recently about dump truck crashes in Kansas City. In one crash in Olathe on July 26, 2023, a high school senior was killed. In another crash in Kansas City on January 16, 2023, an overturned dump truck closed the ramp from I-470 to 71 Highway. Last year, a pedestrian was run over and killed by a dump truck in the Zona Rosa shopping center. These crashes appear to mark a disturbing trend of rising dump truck crashes on our roads. Because of this, here are some things to keep in mind if you or a loved one are the victim of a dump truck crash.

  • Seek medical attention. As with any crash that causes injury, immediately seek medical attention. Do not delay getting medical attention. Follow your doctor’s orders and attend all appointments and therapy sessions. Not only will this make your case better, but more importantly, it’ll make you better.
  • Preserve evidence. This includes pictures, statements, calls, texts, and letters. You should also preserve the car you were in until it can be fully inspected and data downloaded from any crash recorder. If you don’t preserve evidence, it can be difficult or impossible to make your case.
  • Report the crash to authorities. Not only should the crash be immediately reported to the police and fire officials, but you should also notify the US Department of Transportation so they can do an inspection. These agencies will often write reports which can be used to prove your case.
